Crochet A Summer Cloche Hat

Looking to add a touch of vintage charm to your summer wardrobe? Why not try your hand at crocheting a beautiful summer cloche hat? This classic hat style is not only fashionable but also provides excellent sun protection for those hot summer days. The beauty of crocheting your own hat is that you have complete control over the fit and style. If you prefer a snug fit, simply adjust the number of stitches accordingly. If you want a looser fit, add a few extra stitches to the pattern. This project can be given as a handmade gift to friends and family.

Materials:

  • 2 skeins of DK weight cotton yarn
  • 3.5mm crochet hook
  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors

Instructions:

Brim:

Row 1: Chain 17

Row 2: Single crochet (sc) in second chain from hook, sc in each chain across (16 sc)

Row 3: Chain 1, turn. Sc in each stitch across (16 sc) Repeat Row 3 until brim measures desired length (approx. 16 inches)

Hat Body:

Round 1: Slip stitch (sl st) in the back loop of each stitch around the brim (do not turn)

Round 2: Chain 1, sc in each stitch around (16 sc)

Round 3-8: Repeat Round 2 (16 sc)

Decrease:

Round 9: Chain 1, sc in first 2 stitches, then single crochet 2 stitches together (sc2tog). Repeat this pattern around the hat (12 sc)

Round 10: Chain 1, sc in each stitch around (12 sc)

Round 11: Chain 1, sc in first stitch, sc2tog, repeat around (8 sc)

Round 12: Chain 1, sc in each stitch around (8 sc)

Finish:

Fasten off yarn, leaving a long tail. Using a yarn needle, weave the tail in and out of the remaining stitches and pull tight to close the top of the hat. Weave in ends and enjoy your new Summer Cloche!

Question: at what point do I join the ends of the brim to make a circle? If the brim is 16 sts wide and 16 inches long how do you suppose I slst in only 16 sts for the body of the hat? I think you missed a step in there. My mind is slower than it used to be and it took awhile for me to understand how this was going to work. But, not everyone has crocheted as long as I have.

Please edit your pattern for the beginners

THANK YOU

WHERE IS THE PATTERN FOR THE WHITE HAT AT THE TOP OF THE PAGE? THAT ONE LOOKS MORE INTERESTING THAN THE PATTERN OF SC ONLY THAT'S LISTED.
