Crochet Melody The Bunny

Materials

- 2.00 mm crochet hook (US C)
- 100 % cotton yarn for a 2.00 mm hook
- A pair of 6 mm safety eyes
- Tapestry needle
- Polyfiber fill
- 5.5 cm of craft wire

You will need:
White, light pink, a bit of lilac and a tiny bit of light yellow yarn. I’ve used 100% cotton yarn (8/4 - Fingering).
Finished size: From head to toe, your finished doll measures 12 cm approximately. Of course, should you choose a different hook and yarn, final measures will vary…

Leg 1
Start with white…
1. Chain 6 ch stitches. Crochet 2 sc (increase) in the second ch from hook and then 1 sc in each of the following 3 ch stitches. Crochet 4 sc (2 increases) in the last ch stitch, which will allow you to turn and work on the other side of the foundation chain. Crochet 1 sc in each of the following 3 ch stitches and, finally, 2 sc (increase) in the last ch stitch. (Total stitches: 14 sc)
2. Crochet 1 sc, 1 increase, 4 sc, 1 increase, 1 sc, 1 increase, 4 sc, and finally 1 increase (18)
3. Only through back loops, crochet 18 sc 
4. Crochet 7 sc, 2 decreases and finally 7 sc (16)
5. Crochet 6 sc, 1 decrease, 1 sc, 1 decrease and finally 5 sc (14)
Start stuffing the legs firmly and continue doing so as you go…
6. and 7. Crochet 14 sc
8. Crochet 5 sc. Leave the rest of the stitches unworked. Fasten off yarn and weave in ends. Set aside. 

Leg 2 + Body
Start with white…
1. Chain 6 ch stitches. Crochet 2 sc (increase) in the second ch from hook and then 1 sc in each of the following 3 ch stitches. Crochet 4 sc (2 increases) in the last ch stitch, which will allow you to turn and work on the other side of the foundation chain. Crochet 1 sc in each of the following 3 ch stitches and, finally, 2 sc (increase) in the last ch stitch. (Total stitches: 14 sc)
2. Crochet 1 sc, 1 increase, 4 sc, 1 increase, 1 sc, 1 increase, 4 sc, and finally 1 increase (18)

DON’T BREAK THE YARN… Now we will start with the body…

Body
9. (This is the tricky part…) Still with leg 2 on your hook, join leg 1 with a sc. This will be the new beginning of the following rounds. Place a stitch marker here. Make sure both feet are facing forward, and the back of the legs face you. Crochet further 13 sc all along leg 1. Then go to leg 2 and crochet 14 sc along leg 2 (28).

10. Crochet *13 sc, 2 sc in the next st*, repeat * twice (30)

11. to 13. Crochet 30 sc

14. Crochet *3 sc, one decrease*, repeat * (24)

Start stuffing the body firmly…

Arms

Make two, using white

3. to 10. Crochet 8 scNo need to stuff the arm11. Press the opening with your fingers, aligning 4 stitches side by side and sc together the corresponding stitches, 1 sc into each pair of stitches.

Fasten off yarn, leaving a long tail to sew the arms to the body.

Tail

Using white…

Fasten off yarn, leaving a long tail to sew to the back of the body.

Small cape

Using pink… 

The cape is not crocheted in rounds but in rows.

1. Leaving a long initial tail (you’ll use it to sew the cape around the neck), chain 23 ch stitches. Starting from the second ch from hook, crochet 1 sc in each ch stitch (22 sc).
2. Chain 1 and turn. Crochet 2 sc in the next st (increase), 20 sc and then another increase (24).

3. Chain 1 and turn. Crochet 1 increase, 22 sc and then another increase (26).

4. Chain 1 and turn. Crochet 1 increase, 24 sc and then another increase (28).

For a tidier finish, chain 1 to turn the piece 90 degrees clockwise and crochet 4 sc along the side of the cape, working in the spaces between rows. When you reach the top edge, crochet 22 sc in the remaining loops of the foundation chain. Then chain 1 to turn the piece 90 degrees clockwise again and crochet 4 sc along the other side of the piece, once again working in the spaces between rows.

Fasten off yarn and weave in ends.

Hood

Using pink…

1. Magic ring of 6 sc

2. Crochet 2 sc in each st (12)

3. Crochet *1 sc, 2 sc in the next st*, repeat * (18)

4. Crochet 1 sc, 2 sc in the next st, *2 sc, 2 sc in the next st*, repeat * 5 times, 1 sc (24)

5. Crochet *3 sc, 2 sc in the next st*, repeat * (30)

6. Crochet 2 sc, 2 sc in the next st, *4 sc, 2 sc in the next st*, repeat * 5 times, 2 sc (36)

7. Crochet *5 sc, 2 sc in the next st*, repeat * (42)

Fasten off yarn, leaving a long tail to sew to the hood. Cut a piece of 5.5 cm of craft wire. Using a pair of pliers, make a loop on one of the ends of the wire and place it inside one of the ears. Cut the wire to size and make a loop on the other end with the pliers. Stuff the ear around the wire…

Bow for the hook
Using lilac… The ribbon is crocheted in rows, not spirals
1. Chain 7 ch stitches. From the second chain from hook, crochet 1 sc in each chain (6 sc).
2. and 3. Chain 1 and and turn. Crochet 6 sc.

DON’T BREAK THE YARN… Chain 1 to turn the piece 90 degrees clockwise and crochet 3 sc along the side of the bow, working in the spaces between rows. When you reach the top edge, crochet 6 sc in the remaining loops of the foundation chain. Then chain 1 to turn the piece 90 degrees clockwise again and crochet 3 sc along the other side of the piece, once again working in the spaces between rows.Fasten off yarn and weave in ends.

Use the same lilac yarn to tie several rounds of yarn in the middle and finish with a knot.

 Assembly- Sew the arms to the body.- Sew the small cape around the neck. - Sew the hood to the head.- Sew the ears to the hood and bend the one with the wire inside.- Using a bit of light yellow yarn, embroider the nose in between the eyes.- Sew the lilac bow to the hood. - Weave in all ends inside the doll.
