Crochet Scrubby Edge Dishcloths

Create your own unique dishcloths with a crochet scrubby edge design. Materials:

  • I (5.5 mm) crochet hook
  • Cotton dishcloths yarn (I used Scrubby Smoothie by Red Heart in the “Bright Pink” “Lime” and “Caribbean”
  • Scrubby Cotton by Red Heart Yarns for accent edge in the “Glacier” “Primrose” and “Duckie” colorways (Optional for scrubby accent edge)
  • Tapestry needle
  • Scissors
  • Ruler or tape measure

Sizing:

  • 9 inches across
  • 9 inches tall

Abbreviations and Tutorial Links:

  • Chain (ch)
  • Single Crochet (sc)
  • Double Crochet (dc)

Instructions for main square (worked in Scrubby Smoothie):

Ch 4 and join with a slip stitch to form a ring.

Round 1: Chain 5, then work 3 dc into the center of the ring, then ch 2. Work the (3 dc, ch 2) two more times into the center of the ring. Work 2 more dc into the center of the ring, and join with a sl st to close.

Round 2: Slip stitch over to the closest corner space, then ch 5. Work two dc into the center of the ring. Work a dc in each of the next three stitches. To work the corner, work two dc, ch two, then two more dc in the ch 2 space from the previous round. Work the next side the same way, working a dc in the next three stitches, then work the next corner by working 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc all in the same space. Keep working in this manner all the way around the square. At the corner where the round began, work one more dc in the corner space, Join with a sl st to close round.

Repeat round 2 until you have a total of 6 rounds or it measures 9 inches by 9 inches (note: you can work more or less rounds if you need it to be a different size)

Instructions for edging and hanging loop (worked in Scrubby Cotton):


Round 1: Tie new yarn into any corner space. Ch 1, *then work 3 sc into the corner space. Work a sc into each st across, then 3 sc into the corner space. Repeat from * around. Join with a sl st to close round. Ch 10, then work a sl st into the stitch in the center of the corner. Weave in ends.
