Supplies

  • Wooden beads (1 long bead, 1 round bead)
  • Shoe laces
  • Googly eyes
  • PVA glue
  • Scissors

Step 1

Take your shoe lace and cut it in half, or to the length you would like your bookmark to be. My bookmark is approximately 25 cm long. Tie a knot at the end you cut. This will stop the shoelace from fraying.

Step 2

Cover the end of your shoelace in pva glue, to the size of your beads. Make sure you do not put any glue on the hard end of the lace.

Step 3

Slide on your long bead, this will be your bug’s body.

Step 4

Add some more pva glue to the top of your long bead.

Step 5

Slide on your round bead, this will be your bug’s head. Remove any excess glue with a tissue.

Step 6

Add pva glue to the bottom of your bug’s body, filling up the hole of the bead. Remove any excess glue.

Step 7

Cut off the tip of the shoelace, level with the top of the bug’s head. Fill the hole in with some more pva glue, wiping away the excess.

Step 8

Add your googly eyes, by applying some pva glue to the backs and pressing them in place. Allow you bug to dry.

Your book bug bookmark is now ready to go on some amazing reading adventures with you! Isn’t he so cute!
