Materials

  • Baking Soda: Holds the scent of the essential oil and gently cleans the shower floor. It provides the fizziness when water hits the shower melt.
  • Lavender Essential Oil: Lavender has so many great natural qualities. It’s calming aroma is great for rest and relaxation. Lavender helps to quiet the mind and ease stress & anxiety, making these shower melts perfect for a shower before bed.
  • Water
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Spatula or Spoon
  • Silicone Mold: This is the silicone mold I used. But really, you can use any silicone mold shape you like.
  • Baking Sheet

Shower Melts Recipe

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

In a mixing bowl, combine the baking soda, essential oil, and water. Mix together to form a paste.

Place the silicone mold on a baking sheet.

With a spatula or spoon, add the paste to the silicone molds. Press the mixture tightly into each mold to remove any air bubbles, and smooth the tops with your fingers.

Place the pan with the mold into the oven and bake for 20 minutes.

Remove from oven and allow tablets to cool completely before removing from molds (1-2 hours).

Store in an airtight container out of direct sunlight.

How to Use Shower Melts

Place one shower melt tablet on the far end of the shower floor, away from the direct stream of water. Avoid placing the shower melts directly under the water, otherwise it will dissolve too quickly.

Breathe in the delicious aromas of the essential oils and enjoy!

Storing Shower Melts

Store the tablets from this shower melts recipe in an airtight container out of direct sunlight. I like to store mine in glass canning jars similar to these. Not only do these shower melts look pretty stored in glass jars, but it helps to keep the moisture out too.

Use shower melts within 1 month for best results. They will last longer, but the essential oil scent will not be as strong.

Tips for This Shower Melt Recipe

  • When making the shower melt paste, do not add too much water. The paste should resemble damp sand, and you should be able to squeeze the paste and it holds it’s shape.
  • Try other essential oils in this shower melts recipe. Vanilla, orange, lemon, juniper berry, or eucalyptus all have wonderful scents and are great for aromatherapy.
  • Be sure the shower melts are fully cooled before storing or using them.
